SGS United Kingdom Ltd operates a network of state-of-the-art laboratories across the UK providing analytical laboratory support for the upstream and downstream sectors of the Energy, Utilities and Chemicals Business. With labs situated close to major refineries, storage facilities and points of import/export, SGS leads the field in offering top quality laboratory services on a 24/7/365 basis.
Experienced, highly trained analysts operating in modern, well equipped labs, many of which are United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) accredited to ISO 17025, ensure that SGS provides analytical testing to the highest laboratory standards. SGS maintains laboratory quality and monitors proficiency through participation in internal and 3rd party round robin testing programs, internal and independent audits and rigorous training and competency compliance standards.
Impartial, independent analysis is critical to the continued success in the production and trade in the oil, gas, chemical and utilities industry. When SGS completes your analytical testing, you can concentrate on your core business, allowing SGS experts to carry out the analysis in an accurate, efficient and totally independent manner.
As the World’s leading independent testing, inspection and certification company, our impartiality and expertise provides you with peace of mind that your results are correct . . . every time.
All SGS United Kingdom laboratories operate to ISO 17025 Standards.
Fuel Testing
SGS labs provide a full range of fuel testing capabilities for petrol, diesel, fuel oil, Jet and biofuels (biodiesel and bioethanol). All tests are carried out to ASTM, IP or ISO standards.
SGS carry out full specification testing to European Standards for gasoline (BS EN 228), diesel (BS EN 590), biodiesel (BS EN 14214), bioethanol and Jet A1(Def Stan 91/91(5)).
Petrochemical Testing
SGS laboratories perform a full suite of tests on feed-stocks, products and by-products for the petrochemical industry. Examples include; alcohols, solvents, aromatics, organic compounds, caustic, etc. Analytical work is carried out in accordance with ASTM, IP or ISO internationally recognised standards in UKAS accredited labs.
RoHS Testing
Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) regulations came into force in Europe in 2006, restricting levels of hazardous materials in electronic and electrical components. The restricted hazardous materials are mercury, cadmium, lead, hexavalent chromium, Poly Brominated Biphenyls (PBB) and Poly Brominated Diphenylethers (PBDE). SGS provide full RoHS testing capabilities for the electronics industry.
Crude Oil Assays
SGS United Kingdom has been carrying out crude oil assays for the Petroleum Industry for over 70 years. With crude assay capabilities across two major sites within the UK, the results of SGS crude oil assay testing have provided extensive detailed hydrocarbon analysis data for refiners, oil traders and producers. Various assays are available from simple TBP distillations to full assays up to 550oC. Testing can include crude oil characterization of whole crude oils and the various boiling range fractions produced from typical product testing by standard test methods. Information provided by SGS from the petroleum assay is used for detailed refinery engineering and client marketing purposes.
Lubricant Testing - Vernolab
SGS Vernolab can help you get the most out of your lubricants while allowing predictive maintenance and reducing down time. Just as a doctor uses blood tests to identify health problems, SGS Vernolab uses sophisticated IT and robotic systems to test lubricants to diagnose the condition of equipment and the longevity of lubricant lifecycles. This has major benefits to customers as it minimizes downtime, increases the lifetime of equipment while maximizing oil usage.
