D6 Quality and Environmental Management (elective)

Introduction:

Membership of the Institute of Quality Assurance depends upon previous qualifications and experience. One of the educational requirements is the IQA D6 Quality and Environmental Management. This course is intended for personnel wishing to prepare for this examination. This package provides students with an understanding of the interactions of quality management systems and environmental management systems, and the application of these management systems in industry.

The packages:
The packages are stand-alone private tuition packages that allow the delegate to work at their own pace through the preset training material. There is the option of one day workshops for further training guidance if required.

The distance learning material is presented in six parts that will be sent to you upon course registration. This package includes:

  • A comprehensive set of tutorial notes
  • Work books
  • A course text book - Essential of Environmental Management and a copy of ISO EN 14001
  • Assignment title to be submitted for marking
  • Typical examination questions with solutions
  • One year’s unlimited tutorial support is provided by telephone, fax, e-mail or written correspondence as required
  • Monthly Quality Newsletter with all the very latest QA news, keeping you right up to date and informed on what is happening in the Quality Assurance field
  • There is an optional revision workshop held six weeks before the exams are due to take place.

The Contents:

The aims of this package are to:

  • Enhance student's awareness of the disciplines and techniques of quality and environmental management
  • Enable students to understand the development of environmental management systems
  • Identify the interface between ISO EN 14001, EMAS and other management systems
  • Enable students to evaluate and interpret environmental management systems
  • Apply techniques in an industrial environment
  • Enable students to appraise and report on an industrial activity with regard to possible environmental effects.

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

  • Understand technical content and historical development of Environmental Management Systems, and the development of the standards ISO EN 14001, EMAS and ISO 9001
  • Analyse and interpret the interfaces between the standards and the implications for use
  • Appraise environmental techniques in an industrial environment, including waste minimisation, energy management, and pollution control
  • To analyse the risks, costs and benefits to an organisation of applying environmental management systems
  • To analyse the impact business processes have on emissions to atmosphere, discharges to the water systems and the effects of land contamination
  • Assess if such processes could result in significant short-term or long-term harm to the environment.

  • Emissions monitoring (effluent and plume dispersion).

    4. Assignment

  • An assignment and assessment of student work will be considered within the module and will consist of one assignment, which will be set by the IQA. This is to be marked by the course tutor.
