European Union Emissions Trading Scheme

Aims
This course aims to develop an understanding of the Legislation and structure of the EU ETS.

To introduce the concept of an Emissions Trading Scheme as a way of reducing greenhouse gas emissions rather than through direct legislation.  The course also introduces the DEFRA and EA guidelines on emissions verification and the monitoring and reporting guidelines applicable from the schemes currently in use in the UK.

The participant will gain an understanding of the EU directives as they apply to the UK and an insight into other EU countries’ approaches together with an introduction to the technical aspects of emissions monitoring.

There is also an introduction to the UK verification approach as overseen by UKAS.

Profile
The course is structured using a combination of presentations and group exercises, designed to introduce the subject of emission auditing and verification.

Delivered by an EU ETS lead assessor with experience in the current practice of emissions trading verification.

The course may be tailored to suit individual sectors for delivery in-house if required.
