Aim

This course aims to provide you with guidance on how to use environmental performance evaluation as a tool to provide reliable and verifiable information to determine the status of an organization’s environmental performance.

The course will focus on the factors which influence the development of performance indicators but not the data management, reporting and reviewing functions which are an integral part of the EPE process. These issues will be the subject of future courses.

• Describe the key principles of an effective environmental performance measurement process
• Outline the role of environmental performance measurement in ISO 14001
• Outline the requirements of ISO 14031
• Identify a range of performance indicators
• Describe how to select suitable indicators to track environmental performance
