GOST Russian Certification uk
Introduction
With the intention of protecting the Health & Safety of their people, the Russian Government introduced legislation during 1993, requiring products to meet minimum safety standards. The Federal Agency on Technical Regulating and Metrology (Rostekhregulirovanie, GOST), is the Russian authority responsible for standardisation, certification and metrology, and has accredited SGS to act on their behalf throughout the world.

Most products exported to Russia require GOST R Certification in order to pass through customs and to be sold and marketed within the Russian Federation.

SGS United Kingdom Ltd continues to be the only organisation in the UK authorised to provide GOST certification for a wide range of products including industrial, mechanical, electrical and also consumer products such as food, cosmetics, textiles and toys.

The GOST scheme is monitored jointly by the Federal Agency on Technical Regulating and Metrology and Russian Customs. A Certificate of Conformity is written confirmation that products meet safety standards and are required at point of entry and at Customs clearance into Russia. Since 1st January 1998 legislation has required that all products exported to Russia which are Mandatory for Certification to bear the Mark of Conformity, shown below. The Mark of Conformity confirms that the product bearing this mark satisfies the rules for the certification system.

The mandatory GOST R certificate, including the serial production GOST R certificate is issued following technical evaluation of your Company's products to ensure compliance to Russian safety standards. The evaluation procedure may include evaluation of technical documentation, analysis, sampling, type testing, factory audits and surveillance visits.

Legislation has also developed over recent years stating that many products exported to Russia may require other supporting certification/permits before SGS can issue GOST R Certificates of Conformity. Although SGS are unable to issue such certificates/permits we are able to assist in obtaining these on your behalf. See the links at the side of the page for more information.

As from the 1st July 1998 Russian language labelling is required for many products that are sold in Russia. SGS could provide you with more information and specific requirements based on current Russian legislations for your product.
