Excellent Customer Service at Plas


Plas Tan y Bwlch, the National Park’s Environmental Study Centre, has been presented “The Customer Service Excellence Award” by the Cabinet Office.

In a ceremony held at Plas Tan y Bwlch Maentwrog, Elfyn Llwyd MP, presented the Award to Andrew Oughton, Head of Business at the Centre. The Award is given for high level customer service and concentrates in particular at quality of delivery, timeliness, information, professionalism and staff attitude.

On behalf of Plas Tan y Bwlch, Andrew Oughton said, “Going through this process made us look at ourselves in detail and made us think carefully about how we deal with all of our customers. By receiving this Award, we will now use this experience to strengthen our customer service which will in turn improve customer satisfaction levels for Plas. Receiving this Award would not have been possible had we not have received the full support of Authority Members, the Senior Management Team and all our staff at Plas.”



Since its establishment as a Study Centre in 1975, Plas has enjoyed a national reputation in the field of environmental studies, and is unique in Wales for the range of courses and facilities it provides. Today, it offers a range of excellent facilities for professional, educational and public courses, including a lecture theatre, lecture and seminar rooms, reference and resources library, fieldwork rooms, bar, lounges and high quality AV and IT equipment. The Centre is located within 100 acres of lakes, gardens and woodlands and accommodation can be provided for 71 people in single and twin bedrooms.

Plas Tan y Bwlch is also a holder of the Visit Wales Welcome Host Gold Award and won the Visit Wales Award in 2003 for the Best Activity Provider in Wales.  In 2006 it was awarded Eco-Centre status by Keep Wales Tidy.

SGS United Kingdom Ltd assessor said, “Plas Tan y Bwlch is a unique place, but two things really stand out for me.  Firstly, their commitment to providing excellent customer service runs throughout the entire organisation, with everyone working together to achieve it.  Secondly, their commitment to excellence goes far beyond the building and grounds of the Plas, and they aim to provide a service and contribute to the lives of the community around them and further afield.  This was clearly appreciated by the many people involved in the Customer Service Excellence assessment.  Congratulations on achieving the Customer Service Excellence Standard.”
