Calibration is a fundamental part of any measurement process.  Without regular calibration the output of an instrument cannot be relied upon and this uncertainty impacts directly on your business.  Furthermore, the calibration process itself must meet certain criteria if it is to be of benefit.

SGS has developed a meter calibration service capable of satisfying very high standards.  Using both static and mobile calibration equipment and with a combined total of more than three quarters of a century liquid meter calibration experience, you can be certain of the level of service you are receiving.

Operating to ISO 9001:2000 and in a UKAS environment using equipment traceable to National Standards, SGS can assist in fulfilling your liquid meter calibration needs allowing you to take control of the operation.

As someone with responsibility for measurement, you know the importance of all links in the measurement chain.  This starts with choosing the correct measurement technology for your application and continues through installation, commissioning, maintenance and finally with calibration.  By failing to perform this final step on a regular basis, the output of the meter cannot be confirmed and all your efforts taken with the other parts of the measurement chain have been wasted.

Our capabilities include:

Static and Mobile Proving Rigs.
With our large range of mobile and static proving rigs, SGS can help you meet your calibration requirements on or off site.  All our equipment is traceable to National Standards with full traceability packs provided including uncertainty of measurement calculations.

SGS has three static facilities within the UK, undertaking the calibration of a wide variety of meters including Coriolis, Vortex & Positive Displacement Meters, on a range of products such as Water, Motor Spirit, Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel, Gas Oil and Kerosene.

We also have a number of mobile proving rigs for on site calibrations which consist of:

• Reference Meters
  The majority of these are 3” & 4” positive displacement meters and are calibrated on the appropriate products over their full operating flow range.  These are primarily used on road loading gantries and process plants with a flow rate range up to 2250 LPM.
• Rig 2- Mobile Proving Rig
  This rig incorporates a 3000 litre proving tank, an 8000 litre storage tank and a diesel driven pump, all mounted in a lorry chassis.  The storage tank may be filled with any appropriate product, including Gasoline, and meters may be proved against the proving tank at flow rates up to 2500 Litres/Min.  This rig is completely self sufficient and needs no external power.
• Rig 4- Mobile Proving Loop
  This 12” mobile pipe prover, unique in the UK, is mounted on an articulated vehicle and has the capacity to prove meters on a variety of products.  Again this rig is completely self sufficient and has the flow range of 60 to 1260 cubic meters per hour.

The above is just a small part of our measurement capabilities.  SGS can also provide the following services:
